Research Associate – Formulation

About this Position:

The Research Associate I position will report to the Senior Scientist. The RA will assist with completing individual formulation development projects in support of Armata’s bacteriophage pipeline programs. Duties will include assembly of study designs, performance of laboratory experiments, organization of data and laboratory notebooks, and analysis of study results.

Job description and technical requirements:

  • Skillful, independent individual who has entry level experience in drug substance, drug product characterization and formulation
  • Assist in liquid, spray dry and lyophilized bacteriophage formulation development activities to support preclinical and clinical drug product development
  • Execute studies including pre-formulation characterization and stability studies
  • Familiar with analytical techniques to study long and short-term stability of biologics
  • Familiar with concepts used for delivery and stabilization of biological drugs
  • Comfortable with operating mechanical equipment like spray dryer, lyophilizer
  • Develop and optimize new assays as needed
  • Designs protocols and procedures with supervisor
  • Process, analyze and organize large data sets
  • Perform cross-functional tasks to support product development
  • Assist in general upkeep of laboratory and maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Maintain laboratory notebook and accurate records of daily experiments
  • Understand and comply with company standard operating procedures and safety procedures
  • Read and understand scientific language, literature and publications as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Pharmaceutics/Industrial Pharmacy, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related scientific field with prior laboratory experience in a lab or research setting in the area of drug formulation and/or delivery development and characterization
  • Knowledge and/or experience with lyophilized and spray-dried dosage form, complex biological assemblies and/or understanding of microbiological concepts and approaches is a plus
  • Experience working with bacteria and bacteriophages with excellent aseptic techniques
  • Understanding of statistics and statistical software to interpret experimental results
  • Excellent English communication and reading/writing skills
  • Must be reliable, organized, detail oriented, and a self-starter with the ability to prioritize and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong team-player and able to work well in small groups and independently

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position for work in a laboratory environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
